As an essential business, HK Laundry Equipment is open and here for you during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re supporting other essential businesses including nursing homes and hospitals, apartment laundries, and laundromats. Follow Karl Hinrichs, the HK Laundry President on a tour and to learn how we’re dealing with COVID-19.
Follow along with Karl Hinrichs from HK Laundry Equipment for a quick tour of our office and see how we’re coping with the COVID-19 epidemic. The first thing you’ll notice is that our office door is locked and there is limited access - this is to protect our employees and customers. We’re trying to stop the spread and lower the curve. The best way to do that is to get our employees to work from home and be independent, so if one gets sick, they aren’t all quarantined. That was a very early lesson we learned - our install crew got sick. Two employees got flu-like symptoms and everyone on the install crew and everyone they interacted with had to be quarantined for 2 weeks. That shut down our install.
Inside HK Laundry, you’ll notice how quiet it is. Normally, our offices are bustling with people talking, telephones ringing and technicians going in and out. That’s not the case here now. It is kind of different.
Next, we’ll see the parts department. You’ll see the desk where our parts manager normally sits. He’s remoting directly into his laptop with Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and he’s using his internet phone. From an outside point of view, when you call the HK offices, a real person will answer the phone and the experience will be just like they were in the office.
We’re still receiving packages and still have service calls going on. We have service technicians on the road. We’re doing service repairs and preventative maintenance. For people who order parts, we’re waiving any freight costs and offering to dropship it from the manufacturer for free. If you need a part immediately and it’s in stock here, we’ll do a curbside pickup. We’ll put the parts in a Tupperware container and you can pick it up anytime you want.
Then you’ll see where our office manager sits. She’s also remoting in from home. Again, the experience with HK should be relatively seamless. They can do 90% of what they need to do directly on the computer. They’re just remoting into our servers. Karl Hinrichs is still in the office to scan documents, receive parts, put parts out, and take care of parts for our technicians.
